Grey's Anatomy This is How We Do It Review

I’d like to start this review off by saying this episode started with a and a shirtless Avery (Jesse Williams) so it was a win in my book in mere minutes. Coupled with title of this episode, “This is How We Do It” which was one of most awesome titles for an episode (its so catchy!)

But those were not the only good things in this episode of Grey’s Anatomy.

Last night, we learned that Mark knows what onesie decorating is, Arizona hates baby showers, Callie loves them, Adele has a confirmed diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer’s, Lexie and Avery like to do it everywhere, Owen gets to pick the chief resident, and April is feeling a bit lonely and may actually like Stark. Also, Karev is living in a trailer in the hospital parking lot for an edge on the chief resident race where by the end of the episode, Lucy kisses him.

Honestly, Grey's Anatomy, really? Really?! I know the musical episode is coming up and that the only way such an episode can work is if it's part of some sort of unconscious fantasy, but did you have to put two of my favorite characters and their unborn baby in a car crash? Come on!

Which leads us to next week, when the Grey's musical extravaganza is happening. The musical episode will take place mostly in Callie’s imagination as the hospital staff works on her injuries from the accident and she makes some life-changing decisions regarding Arizona.

Starcrossed Lovers

Now, let's discuss some of our established couples. You know, the ones who didn't get into a crazy car accident this week.

Scott Foley was also back last night reprising his role as ‘Henry’, Teddy’s “husband. “ It seems she might be developing some feelings for him and this should put us all on the happy train. In one of the funnier moments of the night, Henry is hopped up on painkillers telling Teddy how hot she is and that they should really get together. It seems she may agree as this revelation takes her off the case and she acts like a scared wife during his subsequent surgery. We’ll have to wait and see though.

Kim Raver and Scott Foley have some great chemistry playing this duo but it's almost sad that what brought them together is his disease. There most likely can’t be a happy ending in the cards for these two.

Another unhappy ending revealed tonight was Adele’s expected yet devastating diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer’s. The Chief tries all he can to convince Shepherd to put her on his clinical trial but her score for the criteria falls short by one point. Seeing Adele come to terms with her diagnosis and declare “We’re finally happy and now…it’s not fair” was simply heartbreaking.

Since The Chief has so much on his plate with his new diabetes trial and his wife's new illness, Bailey convinced him to delegate the task of choosing the new Chief Resident to someone else. But not to Bailey! She raised those doctors and won't do it. But surely, you think, he won't ask Derek or Owen - they're married to the front running candidates! But yes. Yes, he chose Owen. And yes, Cristina freaked. Wouldn't you react the same way? Initially overjoyed because how could your own husband not pick you? And then totally crushed because your husband can't pick you. Unfair? I think so.

Bailey had a few great moments with Eli the Nurse. They went at it in the hospital over opposing views on a risky new surgery, and then had an intense moment in the parking lot before heading over to Eli's to go at it in a different way. I would usually find Eli's demanding tone of voice chauvinistic, but in this case - where Bailey was pulling rank outside the confines of the hospital - it worked.

The baby shower stuff was funny - the decorated onsies were awesome - though overshadowed by the final twist. Did you see that one coming, or were you as shocked as I was? Do you think anyone (baby included) died? Which new Grey's couple are you rooting for most?

*My favorite Quotes*

Meredith: Renegades, rule-breakers, gangsters with scalpels. This is the way we like to think of ourselves.

Alex: All these people in here, and you came to talk to me. You like me.

Lexie:Sure i'll come for a consult!

April:Your not fooling any body!

Bailey: Stalking a man while he's in the restroom.

Avery: I'd clean the restroom if he'd let me on his trial.

Cristina: I'd live in it.

In typical Grey’s Anatomy fashion, we were left with both a bang and a cliffhanger at the end of this episode. Moments after declaring her jealousy of Mark and essentially proposing to Callie while in the car for a weekend getaway, Arizona drives right into a truck.

So now it’s your turn readers…what did you like about this episode? Are you on board the Henry/Teddy train as well? Do you think Shepherd will risk his trial by putting Adele on it? What about Lexie and Avery? Lucy and Karev? What do you think is in store for these couples? Most importantly, what do you think Callie’s life altering decision will be?
