Grey's Anatomy Start Me Up Review

This week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy finds a new crop of first year residents and yet another race for chief resident. I swear we just went down this road at Seattle Grace, but perhaps it has been a year.

On to the lesser matters. Teddy clearly did not think this paperwork marriage through. Is anything as simple as sign on the dotted line and go your separate ways in such an instance? She had to have known he had no support system. His fiancee dumped him when he needed her most. So it should not have been such a surprise to her to discover she is the only one around. Although I think the Chief was really trying to prove a point with the whole emergency pancreas situation, the fact is that Teddy is his wife and the one that has to make these decisions. She might want to get to know him a little better.

Just when I thought this show was going to be about filler, with only small plotlines involving Bailey and Teddy mainly, Callie went and dropped a bombshell. Baby Sloan? Holy cow. Talk about changing the dynamics. First, we know that Mark will want to keep that baby and raise that baby if he ever finds out about it. Personally, I think a Mark/Callie parenting team would be rather awesome. However, that is quite a wrench to throw into an already struggling relationship especially after Arizona just admitted that she runs when things get hard. Can things be any harder than your ex of less than a month being pregnant with another person’s baby? I think not.

I was kind of meh about the new residents. I feel like Grey’s Anatomy throws us these “new” characters every once in a while and then we never see them again. I also feel that a lot of the plot lines are just being recycled again and again. Does anyone else feel that way?

Other things that I liked in this episode include:

Bailey and Eli, the nurse, and the way she giggled when she told Teddy he was “dirty:

Sloan drawing on the first year resident’s head with permanent marker.

Meredith wondering “Why would my baby be poo covered?”

Lexi telling the rest of the gang that they are old when they start in about Karev’s new resident.

Also, once again, way to go Karev. Sure he was flirting with the resident assigned to him and sure he slept with her, but he also managed to teach her along the way. That was something everyone else failed to do. And could someone explain to me why Christina seriously thinks she is in the running for chief resident given her huge gap of employment and breakdown? Good to have her back though.

What did you think of this week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy? Did you see Callie’s bombshell coming? I thought she was crying because she missed Arizona. Tell me what you thought of this episode’s and Callie’s announcement
